Commuters in Davao City now have a faster, more efficient route across the city as the government officially opened a new segment of the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road, which seamlessly integrates the Bucana Bridge.
The newly inaugurated segment, known as Segment B, runs from Tulip Drive to Roxas Avenue and marks a significant milestone in Davao City’s ongoing infrastructure development. Designed to ease congestion in the city center, the coastal road offers motorists an alternate route while shortening travel times between eastern and western districts.
A key feature of this new road segment is the Bucana Bridge, a crucial crossing over the Davao River. Completed in mid-December 2025, the bridge is now open to vehicular traffic and is expected to significantly enhance connectivity across the city. Officials note that the bridge is an essential component of the coastal road, linking neighborhoods and facilitating smoother transportation for both local commuters and cargo traffic.
Government officials highlighted the strategic importance of the coastal road project in improving Davao City’s urban mobility. By integrating the Bucana Bridge into the bypass route, the city aims to reduce traffic congestion in downtown areas, improve access to ports and industrial zones, and support local economic activity.
City planners continue to work on additional segments of the coastal bypass, with future expansions expected to further extend the road along the coastline. Once fully completed, the coastal road will provide a continuous, modern route that connects multiple districts while offering scenic views along Davao’s waterfront.
The opening of Segment B, together with the Bucana Bridge, has been met with positive feedback from the public. Commuters report smoother travel experiences and reduced travel times, while local businesses anticipate increased accessibility and opportunities for growth.
The Davao City government encourages motorists and pedestrians to use the new coastal road responsibly and to stay updated on upcoming segments as the project progresses toward full completion. The integration of the Bucana Bridge into this infrastructure initiative represents a major step forward in enhancing mobility and connectivity across the region.
